Internal USB Ports

Everything I buy a PCI USB controller card they always seem to come with 4 external ports and 1 internal one. These aren't your normal motherboard pinouts but regular USB ports. I really can't think of any good reason to use them What do you guys use them for?

My LCD screen that fits in my 5.25" bay. Ran it directly to my motherboard header. I'd like to see some sort of internal USB hub... small size and just has USB pins instead of actual ports.

If you get an internal flash card reader, chance are it will use the regular USB connectors, wich is why you need this type of internal USB port.

Some flash card reader do come with headers, so you simply plug it in you motherboard. However, the cheaper ones do not.

I'm sorry. I thought you were talking about the internal USB connections on the MB.
If I remember correclty, some older add-on front panel USB ports actually used a regular USB connector. They could connect with an internal USB port on a PCI card, or go through to the back of the case and connect that way.

back when i was in highschool, about 4 years ago when i was junior, i built my own computer from monarchcompueters.com. The case i got had the front panel usb. but the cables were the normal usb cables, not the motherboard plug in type,

Internal ports also feed front panel ports.
That's what I use mine for.

I thought front panel ports connected straight to the motherboard? 😕

Front panel ports that are included with cases probably do, but some peripherals have a standard USB-A connector on them, in the event that your case is already using the motherboard's USB headers. You can then either wire the USB cable around to the outside of the case, out the back as Blain said, or else onto the handy connector on your new PCI USB card.
