Internal USB/Firewire cables?

I've got an Antec SX630II case, which comes with front-panel USB2 and Firewire ports. The cables inside that connect those ports end in individual connectors.

My Asus A7M266 motherboard does not have Firewire support, so I added a Koutech PCI Firewire card. It comes with 2 external/1 internal USB2 and 2 external/1 internal Firewire connectors.

I tried connecting the pins from the case to the pins on the PCI card; I'm fairly certain I got the pins right, but it's not working. There aren't pins for internal Firewire, either. The external ports do work fine--I was able to verify those with a USB2 card reader and a Firewire hard drive.

As you can see from the picture linked below, there are also external-type connectors on the inside part of the card. My long-winded question is, are there cable adapters that will allow me to connect the case USB/Firewire cables to those connectors?

Thanks very much in advance for any help.

Can you get a pic of the pins?
all usb pin configurations are not the same that is why you have a bunch of single connectors.

Yeah, you need to look up in your antec manual where each pin goes and compare it against the wire and then do the same thing for the firewire card. Trust me, it is a real bitch. Even worse w/ USB on a mobo because it will usually cause no post if you screw up.

I've actually done it successfully with the rig I built a couple of weeks ago, with Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo and Antec SX835II case. The instructions are the same for the SX835II and SX630II as far as USB2/Firewire pinouts go.

However, the Koutech manual leaves a lot to be desired.

Internally the card has two sets of ten pins (actually one each is removed) for USB connections. The Koutech manual sheet lists them as follows:

x o USB VCC1 / USB VCC 2 (x is the removed pin)
o o D1- / D2-
o o D1+ / D2+
o o GND1 / GND2
o o SHIELD1 / SHIELD2

The Antec manual states that I need to connect two power connectors from the cable to the VCC pins, but only one pin is available. And what the heck is SHIELD1/2? No corresponding connectors from the Antec cable.

Anyway, even if I can figure this out, there are no internal connector pins for Firewire. Which brings me back to my original question--are there such things as internal USB/Firewire cables that can connect from external-type connectors to individual Antec-type connectors? Sorry this is so wordy.

Only one power pin is available because the internal inputs will not power devices. (guess)
Do not connect shield 1/2.
Fill them up in order.

Hook up the vcc (if it doesn't work when finished switch the other vcc connecto to that pin.
Hook up data1- and data 2 -
Hook data 1+ and data 2+
Hook the grounds

That single pinout you are describing supports both front usb ports.

The 1394 pin out would also have ten pins so I think you have both. The other set is probably the firewire header.

1 internal usb header = 2 front ports
1 firewire header = 1 front firewire port
Does it give the firewire configuration in the manual?

Does it give the firewire configuration in the manual?

No, it doesn't. I've checked their website, but nothing there, either.

Thanks for the pinout listing; I'll have another go tomorrow and see if I can get it to work.

Not sure on this but I think you have it backwards.
It should be.

Hi Fred,

I copied the USB pinouts straight from the manual--you mean the manual is wrong? Gee, what are the odds of that. 😀

Thanks for both pinout readings--I'll give them a go tonight.
