Here's a possible way to regain an IDE channel by use of an internal USB CDRW.
I got an open box TDK (burn-proof) 40x12x48 USB 2.0.When I took it out of it's external box...just curious...I was surprised to find a hidden standard molex power connection. Since the drive is a standard size, you could use this as an internal drive, using a standard power connector, and connecting the USB cable to an external port or an internal one if you have one.
This might be an easy way to regain an IDE channel without having to deal with an external drive...humm.
