Internal Temperature

I'm curious about my CPU temp. It stays close to 52 degrees C. The fans are located at front, back, and CPU. I was reading an article earlier and people are saying their temps are low to mid 40?s. Should I be alarmed about mine? What could I do to lower it? I have an AMD box.

Thanks

what CPU? What heatsink? What case? What's your ambient temperature? My box usually runs around 37-39*C idle while the ambient is 20*C.

And maybe the most important factor: what motherboard? For some boards like the Abit nForce-based ones, normal temps are in the high 60's/low 70's. For others, like my fleet of Asus nForce-based ones at work, ~40C is the normal operating temperature. Does the CPU actually run 30C hotter on one board than the other? Absolutely not, it's a matter of how the board is calibrated, and so you should only compare temps with people who own the same motherboard you have. :)

Welcome to the Forums, by the way! :D

Ok, thanks for the eye opener and welcome. My bro said you guys were ruthless and I see what he said was true. It?s my own fault for not listening to him. So, let?s get down to business. Ambient Temp the house = 20 C, case = 42 C, CPU = 53 C, case is a Enlight 7237, processor is an AMD XP1800 with a basic Coolmaster Aluminum heat sinks fan combo. My MoBo is a Gigabyte GA-7VRX ver 1.0. After delving into more tech information, I got one number to be close but the CPU temp is the one I was concerned.

thanks,

One last thing, i know this is foolish, but is myRig set up properly in my sig block?

Your CPU temps are more than fine, unless your comp is unstable. Generally, if there is no problems with it, why spend extra money fixing (and maybe, creating more) problems. Your case temps, however, is a pretty high. If your comp has good air flow, the case temp shouldn't be more than a few degrees C higher than your room temp.

If the case is truly near 40C inside, there is room for improvement on that. A couple ideas:

  • If the case came with an 80mm fan in front, move it to the rear exhaust position. If not, you might want to pick one up.
  • Confirm that the power supply exhausts hot air out the back, rather than drawing air in from the back and blowing it into the case
  • Use a wire-cutting plier to nip out the metal grillework covering the rear exhaust hole so the fan can push air easily
  • Drill the holes in the plastic bezel to a bigger size such as 1/4"
But the CPU temps sound ok for a VRX ver. 1.0. Version 2.0 reportedly gets direct CPU-core readings and would probably be about 10C higher :Q but still no cause for alarm.
