internal storage limitations on a server?

Most machines have a max storage listed that is based on the max the builder speced at the time it was built. I don't know on that machine specifically but a lot of machines may say 2TB max (2 disks x 1TB) because of firmware limits and operating system limits. I don't know what that machine specifically supports but I know it took a firmware update for a precision 690 (dell machine around that age) to accept multiple 1TB drives. Even then the built in RAID controller can't make LUN larger than 2TB.

That machine has 2 3.5 inch drive bays but the controller may not support >2TB disks. This is not atypical there was several limits of the years based on a couple issues such as limits in LBA / controllers.

Just realized this is Networking.
