Internal speakers and HDD

Hi all,

Is it safe for the HD to be next to the internal speakers? I read that magnets and HDs don't go together. My case has a weird setup. The internal speaker is right next to where the HD cage / mount is located. Me thinks I should take out the speakers. What do you think? Do you guys have a similar setup?

I wouldn't worry. The magnet on those internal speakers is relatively tiny, and even though HDD's ARE succeptible to EM interference, you're not about to start losing data due to that little guy.

Ahh, I see. I was just concerned due to the fact that both systems with speakers close to the HD suffered drive failures within a week's range. I had to get a replacement from Maxtor. I'm not really sure what cause the failures, but it was strange to have both drives fail so soon. One drive was 3 weeks old when it went clunker. The other one was about 6 months. Both were 40 GB drives.

well, even IF the magnet was affecting it (which it's not)...it would be erasing data...not causing failures. I think you might have been a victim of a bad string of defective drives...
