Internal sound card issue

My Asus Xonar Essence ST sound card, about once every 6 weeks or so, just disappears from Device Manager.

I typically uninstall/re-install the software and card and within 2-3 tries it works again for a while. This last time I got impatient and just pulled it out of my case and am now using the onboard sound that came w/ my motherboard. What the heck?

I'm tempted to just get an inexpensive Creative sound card. The computer is used a great deal for PC gaming.

maybe bad PCI connector? bad interface chip? I've seen many PCI devices sharing the same fate. sometimes taking in out of the mobo, rebooting once, inserting it again - works.

Cheap Creative card with nice headphones mode would be worth it. I like my old X-fi as it downmixes the 5.1 to stereo and sound quality is awesome.

Dude I have the same issue as you except it's with my restive zxr. When I first boot up it'll say no sound device found. I then would have to shut down and wait a few minutes to boot again and the card is back. I never found a fix for it.
