I have a friend who wants to install an internal DVD-ROM into her laptop.

Unfortunately I don't have specs but I'm assuming it's at least a P2/400 maybe a P3/450.

Please recommend manufacturer, model number and where to buy.

Thanks!

If she wants internal, she has to go through the manufacturer, there are no universal internal optical drives. Chances are if the laptop is that old and it didn't come with one, that an internal one isn't even offered.

Actually, a machine that "current" will use a universal connector for the optical drive. The "only" problem you may run into, is that the mounting positions for the drive may differ. To reduce the chance of that problem, buy a DVD-Rom of the same brand as the CD-Rom. Keep in mind that unless the video card has some sort of DVD acceleration, DVD playback may be slightly choppy at times.
