Internal drives

I know that EIDE is an enhanced version of IDE, but what improvement does it have? I read that some drives that are modern are IDE and that some are EIDE. I assume that they are all EIDE, but they just say IDE for short because the old IDE(not EIDE) is not made anymore. So another words, are these terms used interchangably with new motherboards and drives? Am I correct? Could someone please explain.

The terms are interchangable.

If you want to know the real and somewhat confusing history of ATA, IDE, EIDE, etc., check out this page.
