Internal 1tb+ hard drive recommendation.

I just had a failure of an 8 month old Samsung F3 1TB internal drive (it takes power and spins up, clicks twice and powers down). Anyway, I have it's twin which I bought at the same time holding my data. I have an M4 SSD for OS and Programs and the HD for data. I'm nervous about the other Samsung F3 failing. I would like to replace it with something new and reliable. After doing some research, it looks like good choices are WD Black ~$110 and Seagate Barracuda ~$80. There is a pretty big price difference. Is it worth it? Should I just get the seagate? Any advice?

The Seagate will be faster but the Black should be more reliable (5 year warranty vs 1 year too). If longevity is any concern I’d be going for the bigger warranty.

Newegg had a SATA6G 1TB WD Black drive for $109.99 the other day.

I would recommend that one for a system drive, if you insist on a HDD rather than an SSD.

For reliability, I go with WD Blacks or RE4 enterprise drives, which you can get on sale for the same price as the Caviar Blacks. I'm staying away from drives larger than 1TB for the time being.

After having a hard drive fail in just under a year, the last thing you should want to do is buy another hard drive with just a 1 year warranty.

Well worth the extra price for the peace of mind you will be getting with the WD Black and the 5 yr warranty.
