It's on my school's website. I don't want to bother e-mailing my resume if I'm going to find out it's not paid. And it seems strange to just ask. Yep.

when I was in college I had an internship at a fiber optic company working their helpdesk. Made $11.50 an hour which was more than the other interns working for the database group who made only $8.00 an hour.

Don't assume. I work in recruiting and all our positions, intern or not, are posted with no salary info. And we pay our interns really well.

99.9% of internships are unpaid? WTF - maybe if they're journaism or advertising. I have friends making $3200 a month as EE interns and more as ChemE.

interns are not slave labor, they get paid.

Yes they are and no they aren't.

go figure, I've never heard of an intern not getting paid (ever) and I've been getting them from the local universities for some time now. that sucks - free labor. You can't have somebody do work without compensating them.

most interns in the business field get paid close to 20/hr so that's really good wages and compensation

it also depends if they find housing for you in NY / Chicago / LA or any large city where it's hard to find a temp living place

yea, my friends and i laugh whenever see the words "unpaid internship", it's a joke. usually you don't see that in engineering, but for fields like "communications" or that kind of stuff.

i think sometimes you can get college credit for them... not really sure what the appeal of that would be though.

FWIW, I made about $47k/yr as an intern. I was only there for 7 months, but it most certainly was a paid internship.

Don't assume that it's unpaid - maybe play dumb and try calling them anonymously (from a friend's phone if you're that paranoid) and ask them if it's a paid position and what the salary is?

It all depends on the industry. The a lot of entertainment companies, for example, often have free interns working for them.

wtf pays an intern ~$20 an hour?

As far as OP goes... send them a resume and take an interview, then just turn it down if it doesn't pay. They might have just forgotten to list it, or maybe they didn't list it because it's higher than other positions and they don't want to pick up a loser who is good at putting on a show in an interview.

You can always go for a 10 minute interview and get the interview experience then turn it down, but you'll kick yourself if you find out it was paid.
