intermittent problem powering up computer

dighn

since a few days ago i've had intermittent problem starting my computer up. what happens is when I press the power button, sometimes it doesn't power up at all. but if i turn off the switch at the back of the PSU for a while(30 seconds or so), turn it back on and then try again it boots up. one time i turned the switch off for a very short time then pressed the power button, the computer powered up for half a second and then shut down, switch off the psu for longer enabled me to start it up properly. i have absolutely no problem once the computer is started up though. now I just switch the PSU off after I shutdown the computer and I don't have trouble starting the computer up if i do that.

my motherboard is a MSI K7T Pro 2-A and my PSU is a Macron 300 W

has anyone seem anything like this?

My dad's was doing this too.

He's got a similar setup, MSI Pro2A.

I suspected it was a power supply problem so I changed it out with a new one. Bingo, the problem went away.

I'd say either your PS is going bad, or you have it overloaded.

I don't think it's overloaded because I only have 1 system fan, 1 hd, 1 cdrom hooked u to it. It's gotta be the PSU then. I'll just turn the power off after I shut down... and I'll see if it does the same thing when the weather cools down, thanks a lot people.
