Intermittent missing

The last few days my engine has been missing when I first start it up ,and sometimes at stops, but only some of the time on both counts. Even after driving for miles on the highway come to a stop and it might start missing again but not always. Then today when I got to work pulling into the parking lot it starts missing real bad found a parking spot and this huge cloud of steam poured out the back. I thought well that's the end of that motor. But after work it stated up and ran fine drove about 30 miles to the store . When I came out and started it back up , it's missing pretty bad again , goused it and took off ran fine the next 10 miles home even when I stopped and backed into the driveway.no steam in the whole 40 mile trip home .. What do you think. ??

Time for a thorough diagnostic session. Without knowing what engine we are dealing with and the miles on it ............could be fuel , could be electrical......mechanical......

Last time i had this happen it was one of the coils in my distributor. I would start with the distributor and go from there.
