Intermittent dual video out from Sandy Bridge mobo

I am able to use dual monitors using the hdmi and dvi port on my Intel DH67CL (H67 chipset) motherboard. However, it is really flakey and often just sends out the signal to only one of the ports. I am running Windows 7 with the latest drivers.

If I go an toggle the primary monitor through the Intel video setup I can usually get it to output to both. I've noticed when the monitors shut off it's makes the disconnected/connected hardware sound about 10 times. Seems like sloppy drivers to me but maybe it's a Windows 7 thing.

Anyone experienced this?

I guess I'll put the ole' 8800gt and see if that behaves any better.

I know on AMD mobos using the IGP you can only use D-Sub + HDMI or D-Sub + DVI, but not HDMI + DVI. Perhaps it's the same for Intel boards. Refer to your mobo manual.

The H67 chipset does support dual digital outputs (DVI + HDMI) while AMD and Nvidia integrated graphics don't.

I find it stange that your problem should be a driver issue, considering that your setup works intermittently.

It may look like a longshot but could you have a bad contact somewhere? I have a similar DVI + HDMI setup (NVidia videocard) and the HDMI contact at the videocard is a bit mushy for my taste.

Yea, that could be it actually. I did have trouble getting the HDMI to work in the first place and it did seem to have to do with how it was seated. Though I'm not sure if that explains the weird sleep behavior. I'm going to be interested to see if the 8800, which is dual dvi, behaves the same way. I guess all the connect/disconnect sounds could be related to the hdmi audio come to think of it.

Can the HDMI output on an H67 motherboard be converted to DVI or D-Sub? I have older monitors that don't have HDMI inputs.
