I've recently built a "new" computer. I used the PSU, Video card, DVD drive and HD from the old system. But, when I boot the system, about a quarter of the time it won't boot and give me 1 long beep and 3 short beeps.
1long, 3short | No video card or bad video RAM | Reseat or replace the video card.
I reseat the video card and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, I have to reseat it one more time. It didn't do this in the old system at all. I'm thinking it might be a PSU issue, but I'm just looking for somebody else's opinion. The card is a Radeon X1800XT and the PSU is a Thermaltake 420W. The specs for the X1800 say I need to be running a 500W or above, but it wasn't giving me an issue in the old system, and I know the CPU and RAM are using less power on the new one. One other thing, it might be a BIOS issue, but I can't really say. Has anybody heard of an issue?
I'm planning on selling this system, so I need to make sure it works 100% of the time, and I'm looking to make the right upgrade. Should I spend $100 on a new PSU or get a geforce 7600GS? I need to be about 80% certain that what I put in there is going to fix the issue as I don't have much money to spend.
