Interior design question

Will wooden chairs and wooden dining table look weird on hardwood floors?

for some reason, I think they will.

where do you get your interior design inspiration from?

Depends on the rest of the dining room. If it is what you have, then purchase a rug, and place the dining table on the rug. Make sure the table is a darker color than the floor.

They go very well together. Of course, you could find two wood colors that just clash. But other than that rare bad combo, it looks quite good.

I've got a wood dinet set in my kitchen with wood floors and I like it. If I remember, I'll get a photo of it and post it tomorrow.

Glass tables just look like a 1980's reject. And since the 80's aren't yet back in style, glass tables are almost always tacky.

cool, show me a picture so that I can see what it looks like.

I can't get a picture of the room as it is being built and even I have no idea the exact color of the hard wood floor. I just know it's natural, but there could be many shades of natural.

to me, wood on wood looks tacky..

No matter the materal you choose for the table & chairs, you should put a rug under the area.

"Wood on wood" looks fine. It's pretty normal and usually looks good.

if the variation of woods (floor vs. table/chairs) are different enough, it can look very good.
also, take into consideration the style of the room and the furniture itself.

I get my ideas when i walk into the room, i want to "feel" a certain way... uplifted, relaxed, welcomed, etc. from there i choose things that would make me happy

that's a good approach...what mood do I want to feel in this room?

why put a rug under the table? doesn't that defeat getting hardwood floor in the first place?

Doh! I forgot to take a picture. And I won't be near an internet connection until Monday. I'm sorry.

Try iron

Stay away from iron tables/chairs. I was at a friend's house last night who has a wrought iron set and I just about had a hernia carrying a chair to the hallway so I could change a lightbulb for her.

What color are the walls?

right now just factor/builder white, but I may put up wall paper or paint it.

It's a new house and I won't close until Feb '07, but my mind is already thinking about the designs.

We've got Brazillian cherry floors (very deep and vibrant reds) and have a deep brown colored table and chairs in there. Walls are a camel (kind of a yellow with a bit of brown) color and white trim.

Looks very nice IMHO. I'll post pictures tonight when I get home. It's a very rich and warm combination.

would love to see the pics.

also, I like a room that's bright and vibrant. I hate dark rooms...which brings up a point. Does anyone have a solatube installed in their home?

For one it looks good, but also keeps your wooden floor from getting scratched by chairs moving in-n-out etc.

agreed. My fiancee is an interior designer. I will ask her tonight if you post pictures 😛

she could probably give you some suggestions.

I can drop by the site and post pics, but all you'd get is concrete floor right now.

I think they put in floors last because they don't want to get it scratched and messed up by their own people.

what I might be able to do is stop by a lot that's already finished and snap some pics of it because my house will look exactly like it on the inside. sounds like a plan to me 🙂

If I was going to put a wooden dining table and chair set on a hardwood floor, I'd put a rug down first!
