Interferance to cordless phones caused by wireless networking...

We have 2.4Ghz cordless phone and are thinking of getting wireless internet. How bad is the interferance? Someone said you could switch channels on the network, how effective is this?

Switching channels will frequently work, buying a 900mhz wireless phone works even better.
