They're a young couple and the dude is obviously into cars but they use all 3 at random times. It's not like any is a weekend car or a collector's car. They've got an '02 Eclipse that looks like something out of 2Fast2Furious (no joke), a Miata, and a Matrix (for the wife).

Does not make any financial sense.

Some people have a hobby car, some people have enough money to have 3 cars, some people would rather have another car than a big screen TV.

Just like some people think some people on ATOT are morons for having more than one computer.

boo yah!

I'm not ragging on them or anything - they're nice people... but it does not make any financial sense.

My neighbor and his wife have a Mercedes SLK, a Corvette and a new Ford F-150. All three of these cars are no more than a year or two old and they just bought the house last summer for around $570k. They had the Vette and the SLK as well as a Toyota Corolla when they moved in. They have since sold the Corolla and bought the truck.

I have had 3 cars for two drivers in the past. I currently have 1 car for two drivers. Am I allowed to think any household with more than 1 total car is wierd now?

i find it more weird when houses have more bathrooms than people. (ie: 5 bathrooms, 2 people live there)

?

I am one person and own two cars... if it weren't for the absurd insurance costs, I'd be one person who owns 4 cars. :)

we had 3 for a few years (wife and I). we had an old volvo that was paid off as the 3rd car. we wouldn't be able to get enough for it to make it worth selling it. I sold one of the other cars and now drive the volvo every day. 150k and still going strong (and saving every month for a new car).

I agree with others, and also have 2 cars for me and 1 for the Mrs.

The only real major expense is the Auto Insurance. It's a scam that you have to insure all registered vehicles and the insurance is by the vehicle and not the driver. Other than theft/damage in storage there's really no reason why adding a second vehicle should double your insurance rates other than the fact that mandatory insurance is a scam.
