It looks as though you are about to see some interesting advertisments courtesy of some very scared republicans and funded by some very scared utility companies. You are about to be strong armed.

It looks as though Gray Davis has got Bush against the ropes.

>>At a recent gathering of Senate Republicans, one top senator said there "wasn't five votes" among Republicans to block price caps on electricity in California. <<

A must read for California consumers

Its also a good read for the rest of us. Politics in action,in its ugliest form.

Price caps are stupid and will worsen CA's situation - the Reps are like "Fvck the liberals"

Getting away from know-nothing politics for a bit, the energy answer for California is probably either depopulation or nuclear power.

At this point, let me put in a plug for a Stanford professor ( recently emeritus), Dr. John McCarthy. Here is his site:

Progress And Its Sustainability

I read what he had to say several years ago, and I think it is one of the most important things I've read in years. It is especially important for young people to read. Take a day or so to read it - like taking a course at Stanford for free! It will counter a sense of doom that is often felt, I think, by this group -- brown-outs and the poverty and cruelty to come. Read as much of the info there as you can understand. Then get your stuff together kids, there's work to do.

By the way, John McCarthy is one of us. He invented the important computer language, LISP. Geniuses are, well, given to genius.
