Interesting thread about Korean IPS panels for cheap

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=490884

Supposedly some of these use the same panels the Apple displays use at a fraction of the cost. On the last page of that thread is a link to an article about a monoprice 27" ips for $390

did you just turn the calendar from 2011? this has been going on for a while.

here's a thread in this very forum about one of the A- LG panel screens

here's one in hot deals:

As already stated this is old news.

Further, it is not quite true that these are the same panels used by Apple. The panels may both come from LG, however different batches of panels are graded according to the number of defective pixels likely to appear in a panel during the warranty period. Apple, Dell and so on use A+ rated panels. These are not necessarily always 'pixel perfect' however the likelihood of receiving a panel with defective pixels is much lower than the A- panels used in most Korean IPS screens off eBay. For the latter (A- panels) up to 18 defective pixels is considered in spec.

Not necessarily a deal breaker but people should be aware of it. It's also one of many reasons why these Korean screens are so much cheaper.

People wanting in on this game from an American retailer should check out Overlord Computer. They provide the monitors and all support direct from California and currently offer a choice of A or A- panels depending on your preference (that is, if you can jump on the limited stock)

For those of you in the US, microcenter has been selling them and still have them in stock. Monoprice has another few months of lead time before getting good stock.

I guess in other breaking news Nvidia announces the Geforce 560 lol

Why get a 560, the 600 series are around the corner!

I bought a Microcenter Aura 27" 1440p. I was going to buy the Monoprice version because the stand was nicer, but after thinking about the benefits of having a Microcenter within 20 minutes from my job I opted for the local buy.

I have zero complaints and used a few of the dead pixel websites a poster above linked. Zero dead pixels.

Only complaint is backlight bleed through on the bottom right, but it only affects it when the screen is totally black, but not enough to make me take it back. My old Samsung had vertical lines of bleed through which eventually my eyes learned to ignore.
