Florida is down at the bottom I see. Lots of smokers and some of the world's worst drivers. Poor health care availability. Low wages. Lots of immigrants. All of which adds up to some serious problems for our state. On the other hand, we have some awesome beaches. :)

How is your state doing?

11th. Actually the list sums up what i've been saying for 12 years...the far NW and the far NE are the greatest places in the country...for me anyway, for the things I enjoy/care about.

On the other hand, we have some awesome beaches.

And even those are on the way out, the Panhandle beaches are the only ones worth a damn now.

So don't miss Florida....

Kage:

Longboat Key is nice. Panama City Beach is pretty nice, though the town is one of the ugliest places I've seen. I went there last month for Ironman Florida and my first impression was boy here's a town that needs some zoning and a decent planner.

Pensacola used to be a very nice beach. Haven't been there in 10 years though.

I can't believe Texas is that high on the list.

It seems at least as bad as Florida to me.

Louisiana is definately the worst I've ever seen.

Well, if Texas didn't have Houston they'd be a lot higher. :)

I notice Vermont is waaaaaay higher than Texas. Could this be attributable in part to the quality of management at the governor's level? :)

The Pensacola/Ft. Walton Beach/Panama City area is easily the best beach area Florida has to offer, which is why the locals are trying to keep it hush-hush I think - they don't want a Daytona to happen. Spent a lot of time on Long Boat, my grandparents have a condo there.
You're right though, PC is a hole. I was in Pensacola a few months ago, and the beaches looked as good as they did when I went to school there. (Best spots are between P'cola and Ft. Walton IMHO).

Raised the kids in Orlando Metro - North East in Casselberry. They came out O.K. I thought it was a good place to grow up.
They had a lot of fun, got to do a lot of things ranging from the full Wally-World fantasies all the way to the beaches from up
in the North East in Saint Agustine through Daytona, New Symrna, Turtle Mound, The Cape & National Sea Shore, Cocoa Beach,
Treasure Beach area around Fort Peirce where so many of the Spanish Galleons crashed just off-shore during hurricanes.
down through the Upper Keys to Key West.
From the Gulf side and the Everglades theres Fort Meyers, and the Barrier Islands of Sandibel and Captive - wonderful places
to bruise the bottoms of your feet walking over the mounds of seashells that are just littered everywhere.
They don't have any 'sand' beachs there, just a crushed and ground shell variety.
The Under Water Cave that has been researched and found to have been a dwelling area for a primative man, Bubba 1.
Just too many beaches and neat things to list - hundreds or thousands. And each with a distinct and different personality.
