well, I bought my brother in law an Athlon64 moboa and CPU for fixing the heat & AC at my moms place (he was gonna do it for free, but I figured he could use the upgrade, I took his old box, an Athlon XP1500 and kt266a mobo, and stuck it in my moms PC. I then bought a used Kyro 2, and 256mb of DDR for it. I stuck in an 80GB drive and bought her a 19inch monitor. I gave my mom a CD burner, but she doesn't know how to use it.)

She mostly just uses it to play scrabble or mahjong. It's a good stable box, and she rarely has problems with it. even though my mom certainly doesn't need an upgrade, I'll probably be giving her a barton 2500 whenever I get around to upgrading my main rig .... however, that will probably be 6 months to a year down the road since I don't need the upgrade, and I don't have much disposable income anymore (I have a morgage instead)
