It doesn't make sense that a texture pack recommends / requires a faster CPU. And it doesn't make sense that a FASTER video card is needed as well.

Often higher textures also includes more / improved shaders that affects performance.

That explains the GPU recommendation, but not the CPU. Regardless, benchmarks will be out soon. I imagine cards that were getting 70fps or better at their respective resolutions will still do above 60, vram capacity not withstanding. Will be interesting to see how 4gb and even 6gb cards stack up.

Well it's a 58GB patch, so assuming a lot more than just textures :O

Note: To utilize the High-Resolution Texture Pack, make sure you have an additional 58 GB of available and that your system meets/exceeds the recommended specs below.

Probably better shadows, water and such which would also impact CPU.

58GB could easily be textures. If the game has at least 15GB worth already, and they're replacing all of them with larger versions, 60GB is exactly what I would expect.

58GB for extra textures - that too for a Bethesda RPG? Have they made megatextures for the Creation Engine or what?

How big are the textures in the base game?

I've asked on a couple of boards but people haven't seemed to be interested in finding out if the size is reasonable, instead preferring to act as if the size isn't reasonable by default.

I have a 5820k and I consider the game's performance poor enough to recommend that as a minimum, even before this patch..

Agreed. It ran like garbage on my 2500k at launch so I upgraded to the 5820k for FO4 specifically. It runs great on that.

Fallout 4 loves high IPC, uncore, and memory frequency. 6700K/7700K CPUs overclocked with fast memory (3600Mhz+) will walk all over HEDT in this game. Anyway, I'm pretty excited for the official texture pack... It's just too bad I already played through the game.

Maybe they want you to have uncompressed audio instead.

Get it while it's hot!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/540810/

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • MINIMUM:
    • OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
    • Processor: Intel Core i7-5820K or better
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: GTX 1080 8GB
    • Storage: 58 GB available space

I've uploaded a YouTube vid. Looks a little better, but it's not a huge difference. Still runs pretty good. The system memory usage is high though

The texture pop in at ~2:20. Is that the exception or somewhat common?

I'm about to upload a video in 4K with max settings, and I must say...there is a pretty big difference. Gone is the blurriness and Far Harbor looks amazing. Some textures still look pretty bad and shadow and texture pop-in is still prevalent. I can't help but think they used the NVIDIA Vault 1080 lighting in this update, but I can't confirm that. When it's done uploading I'll post it here.

Still looks like crap. Not worth download. There are far better textures on nexus.

Seen some comparison videos and there is a small improvement, but nothing major or outright noticeable. Game still looks bad overall. I mean its the same engine from the Fallout 3, so its no wonder why everything looks bad.

With the texture pack the game losses the blur that FXAA/TAA introduces. I normally use the ReShade "Lumasharpen" program to clean it up, but with this texture mod I no longer need to. I will say, the difference isn't mind blowing, and for most people it's not worth the download. If you're about to invest a ton of hours in the game and have HDD space to spare, then I'd say go for it.

Sounds like a complete waste of time from all the users in here.
Their time would have been better used assisting modders with a texture overhaul

I won't complain since it's free. A bit underwhelming for it's HDD requirement, but it still makes a difference. Screen shots and videos don't do it justice.

That's OK, I'll complain for you!

Haha I'm not impressed by textures done by these studios at all. In my opinion, you need to push the community to overhaul your game for you. It seems these studios just can't do textures as well as the PC gaming community. That's just a testament to how much better we are then everyone!

Lol.

I'll definitely use this pack. Seems like fallout 4 is finally coming together as a game.
