I have some silvania silverstars. They are DOT/street legal "white"/wannabe HID headlight bulbs. Because the color is blue/green-ish, the light scatters more easily, less make it back to your eyes. So it's actually a little bit dimmer with these bulbs than stock halogens.
However, for some reason, these same bulbs make reflective surfaces light up like fire at night. Lane reflectors, signs, etc. The significance to this is that CHP patrol cars have reflective writing on their trunks. So I can see CHP patrol cars several hundred feet away when I am cruising up from behind. It's great.
