I'm sure i'm not the only one to notice this, but a certain facet of the human psyche just struck me as unusual last night...

The Setup: A group of friends/family sit down at a restaurant, all place their orders at the same time. The food arrives 15 minutes later, but alas, one person's food is delayed and should be out shortly.

Observations: First everyone looks around to see if anyone else is eating or is politely waiting. The person who did not get their food always says 'Its ok, go ahead and eat." Most people tend to pick at their side dishes (fries, vegetables, etc... though its usually a finger food since it dosen't take as much effort to eat). Occasionally one person will just start to chow down.

What I find intriguing, even if people don't start to eat and they politely wait for the lone food-less persons' food to arrive, is to watch the person who didn't get their food. They stare at different people's food around the table. Its more pronounced when people start eating, when they talk to you while your eating, they stare at your food, not you, always pretending that they aren't :)

Anyway, I was just bored yesterday and noticed this.

I have to say I haven't really noticed this.
Ditto.

I rarely go out to eat or eat with friends, but it always seemed that folks talk more than they eat. If one persons dish is late everyone just carries on as normal.
5 seconds of chewing followed by 3 minutes of jabber.
