I'm looking to replace my current amd 3800x2 processor, mobo, and ram with a new E8400, 4 gigs gskill, and the GA-EP35 mobo.

I currently have this exact power supply and it was purchased in 2005. http://www.dvhardware.net/review72_ultra-xconnect.html

I haven't really heard anything great or anything terrible about this particular power supply. Im sure that it will be able to handle the load, im just not sure if it is a good idea to continue using it or if anyone here feels it is low quality.

When i bought, there weren't a ton of options for modular psu's and the non modular ones hadn't began to wrap their cables nicely, hence, this was a nice alternative.

Thanks to all who reply.

Ultra has dropped the ball in the quality department big time, they've become the modern raidmax. I'd avoid using it IMO. HardOCP has a review of one of their 700W PSU's the thing blew up on like 400W load or something.

Interesting. I'm referring though to a 500w one that was purchased about the time they were new to market.

Would that one be safe or should I look into purchasing something more recent. I have yet to have trouble with this one in any way and most of the early reviews are positive. I have the exact model linked in my OP.

I'd definitely upgrade your PSU to a good quality one if I were you. If you want modular cables again, you won't go wrong with this one:
CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX 520W ATX12V v2.2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817139001
If you can live without modular cables and you're on a tight budget this one is a screaming bargain(just make sure it has the needed pci-e connections for whatever GPU you choose):
SeaSonic SS-500ES ATX12V/V2.2, EPS12V/V2.91, 500W, PFC, 80+, 2PCI-E (6Pin)

Thanks. Yeah i don't care about modular as long as the cables look decent and not that off white with a million smaller cables going to each connector.
