Interesting Question On My K7S5A

I seem to be running into occasional freezups in Windows XP.

I didn't notice until the first time it happened, when WinXP told me after rebooting that it seems to be my display driver. Well, I loaded the newest drivers (Elsa Gladiac Ultra) but it still happens once in a while.

Here is my suspicion: The on-board NIC and my video card are sharing IRQ 5. I know IRQ sharing is theoretically supposed to work, but I don't feel very comfortable knowing that the 2 devices I use more than anything are sharing an IRQ. However, it will not let me change any settings on the device manager.

Any thoughts?

Yeah...I have built 5 ecs systems and never has it ever assigned the agp port to anything but irq 11....why is it 5???

I would definitely try to find out how to seperate them...I follow the rule of no nic, vid card and sound card irq sharing and it has served me well...

I think that is most likely the issue...

Make sure when you update vid card drivers you follow instructions on uninstalling old and installing new...I have seen many hose things by not reading the readme text files...

Off topic question...

... but I am looking to purchase the K7S5A, but I have no need for the on-board NIC or audio. Can these be disabled easily so I can just use PCI cards?

Yes in the bios I believe the peripheral section you can disable it...enabled will be the default...this is the same spot to turn off on-board sound, serial and parallel ports, and usb controllers...
