Interesting question about DSL and regular modems

I never thought about this, but I was asked if a standard modem could be used over DSL.
(why he asked I don't know...just curiosity I guess)

I told him no, but then I got to wondering if you plugged a 56k modem into the filter that goes directly to your phone it might work...wouldn't it?

If your question is?

Can I use a telphone line that is used for a regular phone and DSL for Dialup Internet connection?

The answer is Yes.

If your Question is, can I use the DSL connection and Dialup at the same time and combine the two Bandwitdh?

The answer is NO!

I'll bite. Why won't an analog modem work at the same time as ADSL? They're on different bands.

it does work, we have our fax machine on our DSL line, and before i was able to get a dedicated data line i used that fax line to dial out to customers sites all the time. i just had to disconnect the fax machine, or it would break the line when someone tried to fax out while i was on.
