According to SR:

When will these units hit the channel? Late October / early November seems to be the timeframe.

Looks like WD has gone back to the drawing board and come out with a real winner here. Would have been nice to have seen a one head 18GB version, but the addition of the 73GB version which is pretty good for storage is nice.

Sure. Didn't you post quote about this very 74 GB Raptor drive? It sure seems off topic to me.

Sorry I couldn't tell you back then but the new Raptor is much better than the old Raptor. That is why I kept linking the better Raptor numbers.

Why should they? Does yours not work? Does it not do the performance that WD claims on the box (10k rpm, etc)? They sent several drives to SR (all with a note saying they are preproduction models) and several drives were tested. SR published the low end, middle, and the high end results - what SR does isn't controlled by WD.

We were discussing the 74 GB Raptor and I linked the closest benchmarks we have to the 74 GB Raptor. You hated those benchmarks even though they are quite close to the 74 GB Raptor performance.

As soon as its released you should be getting one in the mail.
In fact I think all manufacturers are doing this now when they release updated hardware.
Didn't Intel replace everyone's p4's with HT enabled P4's?

If these are as quiet as they sound like they will be, I'll be sure to get a 37 one. Hmmm...Raptor prices right now are at 125 for a 36.7 gb drive. These probably are going to be expensive.....

The old ones are dropping in price like crazy now. Its down to $122 as of now. I am betting $3.50 / GB (what the old Raptor average price was) is going to be around the introduction price of this drive, so that would make the 74 GB one @ $250.

Until some other companies get into the 10000 RPM drives and start competing with this thing, WD is going to ask a lot.

To clarify... $250 will be the introductory price, it'll eventually fall to @ $200 - 210 and thats where it'll stick.
