Interesting New Egg and Chief Value order experience

A little background. I've been buying from New Egg for about 3 years now and never really looked at other companies. Well this computer build I wanted to keep them honest and checked other peoples prices.

In the last month I have ordered a few of my items from Newegg and a few from Chiefvalue because sometimes they were cheaper and included shipping free. Something that surprised me was that Chiefvalue would sometimes get my items to me a day earlier than usually, just like Newegg is famous for.

Then something really interesting happened. They both were out of the hard drive I wanted on the same day within minutes and got it in-stock again within minutes of each other. Then they were both out of stock again at the same time! Well the 24th I ordered an item from each place. They both gave me a tracking number within minutes of each other and both items are showing as shipped from BALDWIN PARK, CA, US.

Also, the first 8 numbers of the tracking number for each item is identical. I asked a UPS representative if that meant it was the same company and she said yes. So either ChiefValue and Newegg are the same people, or they both get their items from the same distributor and everything is shipped from that distributor.

After evaluation all the coincidences above, I tend to believe that they both get their items from the same distributor, which would explain the in-stock out-of-stock situations.

What does this all mean? Not much except that maybe their differences in prices could be the volume one does over the other and that affects the pricing they get from the distributor. Or possibly that no one can say the product you get will arrive in better condition if ordered from one over the other.

I found this very interesting and like finding out little gems like this and thought I would share.

Cool...

I've always wondered how all of the pc parts companies stock all this inventory. Guess that explains some of it.

I had gotten a 3000 Venice from Chief a while ago and the pricing was unreal. Like $120, best available. Shipping was good too. ZZF has me sold though, the 2nd shipping is a huge plus.

newegg is chiefvalue, chiefvalue is newegg, one in the same.

i ahven't been watching lately but a few months ago it looked like newegg was going to make chief the "refurbished newegg". a lot of their emails were nothing but refurb specials.

Yup, that's old news around here... And in any case, this tread belongs in another section (maybe the Brags & Moans thread in the Hot Deals section) .
