Interesting MSI Neo2 Platinum Problem

I'm running another thread in the OC section on this, but I wanted to post here too about the specific mobo issue.

I just got a new Opty 144 and I've been working to OC it on my Neo2 Platinum, with limited success. It would only go up to 260x9=2.34 GHz stable, but on stock voltage. If I went to 265x9, it would lock up instantly, even with much higher voltage (everything else clocked way down - mem at 100, HTT at 3x). I thought that was it, until I tried a different mult. I'm now running 315x8=2.52 GHz, also nice and stable on stock voltage but almost 200 MHz higher than what instantly locked my system up on 9x.

Anyone else seen an issue like this before, with a Neo2 or any other mobo? Any suggestions on fixes or workaround would be appreciated, but it seems like an upgrade to NF4/PCIe is in my future...

I think you might be running into the limitation of your current bios. I can speak from use and my NEO2 had an Opty 146 running 312x9 at a vcore of 1.41 for testing before it went into a NEO4. I used a bios from Sideeffect which included specific memory settings for TCCD memory. You can find these at Rebels Haven Forums.

On my NEO4, I can't get the Opty to run very well on the 9 multi, so it is running at 281 x 10 with the same voltage and rock stable. Memory is using the 166 Divider and I'm sitting at 2.5-3-2-7T 1T @ 2.8v. Hope this helps.

The multiplier affects the max speed of your processor in general, on any motherboard. I have had a similar experience myself, but with the stock 10 multiplier. My 146 can't go past about 283 on the 10 multiplier but can get a stable 333x9 or 375x8 (with 1.52V in all cases).
