Interesting Hard Drive Problem

Here's the scenario. I have a 160gig HD with a couple folders. The files in all but 1 folder are fine.

Currently, when I go into the 1 folder, it shows up as entirely empty. Windows properties of the folder shows 0 bytes, 0 files. However, the folder had around 6 gigs on it, and those 6 gigs are still missing from the total size (ie, the sum of the contents of all the other drives + the 6 gigs missing from the folder is the total size windows tells me is being used on the drive).

I check the folder in DOS, and something interesting happens:

Directory of F:\Newest DL

11/14/2005 06:33 PM <DIR> .
File Not Found

This strikes me as odd, as another folder I have with nothing in it shows 0 files, 0 bytes.

Another odd thing is, I can save to the folder - which I did. I saved a jpg on it to test, windows sees it fine. However, I check in DOS and get the SAME "File Not Found" message, and it doesn't finish listing the directory.

Any ideas? I was just browsing this directory on Saturday, never had a problem with the rest of the drive, no other files are missing or corrupt.

Do a chksdk /f F: in the command prompt. (It checks the disk for errors and fixes them if found.)

I checked the disk through windows, and it said it was unable to fix the folder. I did it in DOS, and it told me the disk was in use, so I scheduled it to scan on a restart.

Restarted, scanned it, fixed it, now everything is listed again.

I wonder why that happened. Any ideas?

Thanks a ton, though. Files are back in working order.
