Just downloaded it right now. Wow, and all this time I thought SMART was just that annoying thing at POST that told me SMART was enabled on my hard drives. I learned something valuable today :D

Yup but I like MBM5 better personally, no program will ever compare to the features it had :( So sad the guy stopped development..

Speedfan loads faster for me, but I don't leave it on all the time, just to check once in a while. I don't bother monitor because I have messed up temp diodes that have fluctuating core temps.

I thought I had lost a drive from excessive SMART errors. I got warnings and ordered another drive. The day I was going to install the new drive and transfer data, my C failed. I have a bunch of crap on my drive. I tried several things to bring it back and all failed to get it to boot. Finally, I let it sit (in disgust) for a few weeks and finally got a rainy day that I could waste on the dmnd drive. I brought up my PC with the failing drive installed and it came up! I quickly dropped power and installed the new drive as 1 and repowered. The failing C drive still came up. I transferred the data, pulled the old C drive and did the make boot thing and readjusted reg entries to match the new config.

The only thing I can think is that I somehow reset the SMART register on the drive or the EPROM. At any rate, I was glad I didn't have to reinstall all that crap. Yep, I do keep backups, but I would have reinstalled all the apps anyway.

Thanks for the link to the ute. Maybe it will shed some light on a somewhat irritating HD thing.

http://www.beyondlogic.org/solutions/smart/smart.htm = teh awesome utility, it's only 18KB and does everything you need. Temp monitoring? Use MBM5 (yes I know they stopped development but it still works for HDDs) so you keep it continuously running in your taskbar.

Wuhoh. Thanks for the link .. looks like good timing

i can't get this app to work at all. it says that my D: (my raptor) isn't SMART compliant  and it acts funny in Active SMART. doesn't detect any info for my storage drive (C:) either.

Try speedfan. I know my 74 G raptor is SMART compliant. It's doing better SMART-wise than my Seagate.
