Interesting Golf Stats (Tigers #'s)

Driving accuracy, 139th

puts per round, 137th.

so, in the minds of most amateurs, the two most important categories, driving and putting and tiger doesn't lead in those two categories.

he must have amazing iron play. he's #1 in greens in regulation.

It seems like almost tries to drive into the rough, maybe that's he's secret, he's better out of the rough? 😕 - He gets it done.

Driving accuracy and putts per round are VERY misleading stats. Driving accuracy should be important, but it isn't with PGA tour course setups. They're catering to the "bomb & gouge" players by keeping the rough fairly light. They want guys to hit it as far as possible as that's what sells, so they don't penalize for lack of accuracy. That's a complete joke. If you have your name on your bag and want to call yourself one of the best players in the world you're supposed to know where the ball is going. These guys don't and they get away with it.

Putts per round is the most useless stat in golf, it's 100% meaningless. Anyone that misses a lot of greens and chips and putts for par saves has a great PPR average and anyone that hits a lot of greens and 2 putts for pars and tosses in a few birds has a high PPR. The key stats on the PGA tour are greens in regulation, putts per GIR, scrambling percentage and par-5 birdie conversion rate. Successful tour players play about even par on the par threes and par fours and they absolutely destroy par fives.

Not to mention how long he drives it. Even if he misses the fairway, he's still so far down there it's an easy second shot for him a lot of times.

he's number 6 in driving distance at 306 yds per drive.

It's simple... On the PGA tour the rough isn't very rough. The name of the game is to get as close to the green off the tee as possible. Tiger hits one of the longest balls on the tour. When you grip it and rip it your accuracy goes down but the way Tiger plays his irons (and the fact that he's usually chipping onto greens that other guys are pulling short irons to play) it doesn't matter much.

Very mislaeding statistics.

Putting should be measured PuttsPer green in reg. which the Tour called Putting average and Tiger is #35.

As for driving accuracy, Tiger is very well aware of what he can get away with.
If the rough is low, he knows he can bomb it anywhere and have a wedge to the green.
If he knows he can't get away with it, he will use his 3-wood or 1-iron(as in the British Open) and be on the fairway.
Driving Acc. is very misleading because if he's #1 in GIR, who cares where his drives go.
