I started gutting a fairly old TIG welder today, which is also somewhat dead.
Damn big capacitors in that thing. :shocked:
But I guess that's what you get from 1960's technology.
A replacement made today could have double the capacity, but occupy only a small fraction of the volume.
500V caps, and if I recall correctly, they were 53uF. Big suckers, maybe 10" long x 1" x 3".
Possible replacement?
30mm diameter x 30mm height.
More research is needed, I'm sure.
