Hi
Interesting topic.... but you missed the last page of the topic (Performance analysis) which refutes the argument that DX10 can give better performance than DX9, at least as far as present and soon-to-come games are concerned.
Out of the five games we tested, only one displayed a definite performance improvement while using a DX10 path, Lost Planet, and that was only when the DX10 exclusive graphics options were disabled. This shows that DX10 does have the potential to be more efficient than DX9. Unfortunately, none of the other games demonstrated this efficiency.
Looks like the author is confirming that we will have to wait for the second generation of DX10 cards, before we actually see performance improvements with DX10 games.

In FiringSquad's latest DX10 analysis, DX10 completely obliterates HD 2900 cards and 8800GTS 320mb. Cards can be up to 2x slower in DX10 path. In practical terms, there is no card today that can provide sufficient performance for DX10 applications. Article Of course, as a side note future games which will include DX10 features will be more advanced with respect to the number of shaders, texture quality and so forth, bringing down performance of cards irregardless of whether the game is DX9 or DX10. But so far, it does not appear in any way that DX10 is actually more efficient.

Nice to see DX10 maturing in performance. However, it's also clear from the article that games use DX10 to add more eye candy compared to DX9, which in turn causes huge drops in performance even with the increased efficiency of DX10.
