if you launch c:\sierra\half-life\hl.exe -game cstrike (plus anything else like -console -numericping), you get regular old CS 1.5, even if you have 1.6 installed.

Isn't that the only way you run it anyway if you've got the mod version?

After you install steam you don't need regular CS anymore, it caches all the files it needs.

well, yea.

When you install steam, you can choose for it to save your current cs (1.5) installation or not.

I don't like steam, have uninstalled it and am intending to play 1.5 (and run it in my dedicated server) as long as possible.

Steam is a dog, and before you know it they're gonna use it to charge us a fee to play online(like the RPGs do).

Steam Sucks big time, I have had nothing but trouble with it since I instaled it. I deleted the lot after the last update which made things worse. I have gone back to the usual way of starting Half-Life etc.

I will be very surprised if I ever begin to believe steam is a good thing.

I am very afraid it will be the nail in the lid of cs's coffin.

Same here, I think it's a lot better with the file/client validation to verify integrity of each client. So much cheating in the game prior Steam/1.6.

See how much you like it when they start charging you a subscription to play online.

If you check the steam files you'll see a config for credit card info.
