Interesting chart of the United States

i'd like to see a similar map based on geographical size. pretty interesting though. the people of saudi arabia only manage to have the GDP of Massachusetts while having the same population as Texas. with all that oil they can't do better than that?

I live in CA so yea. Everyone knows the rest of the USA would suck without Cali.

so all i have to do is move to Cali and then i can feel as cool as you? sweet.

I'm from AL. Does this mean we are allowed to start our own 419 scams now? That rich uncle/brother of mine is on his deathbed and I stand to inherit his fortune. In the mean time, I am short on cash and need some help. I promise to repay you tenfold. To transmit the money, we need to bribe a bank official. So could you help me with a loan? PM me your CC info, SS#, favorite place to get a burger, and of course, a signed and notarized power of attorney form. kthx.

Oil comes out of the ground, the profits go to the royal family who spend it in Vegas, Monte Carlo, Paris, New York and sex tours of Thailand. If the King and his thousands of nephews confined all their debauchery to home soil they'd be way farther up.

LOL that was shocking to me too, I would have swore that Saudi Arabia had the GDP greater than California's, but only of Massachussetts?? Pathetic.

Texas has the same GDP as Russia, the ex world's superpower??? NO way.

Turkey and Mali. No offense to anyone from Mali, but it is the first time I have ever heard of that country. 🙁

That's cute. I live in the county with the highest median income though 😛

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highest-income_counties_in_the_United_States

Edit: Damn, 2nd highest. But we have 5x the people as Loudoun so I'm going to pretend we're better.

Which means? Well, what it means is that unless you make 6 figures, you're poor, relatively speaking. Living in a high median income area generally means you'll be making a bit more money, but it costs a shitload more money than in other areas for stuff like housing.

My town in California just had to cut back law enforcement back to a single car between 12-4am. How the hell can the state be producing so much and yet can't afford police? It's starting to feel like South America, with the gang activity overrunning the law enforcement.

GDP = C + I + G + E

lots of C, G, and -E. very little I. also, GDP does not measure distribution of wealth. you could have 1 person with all the $$ and you'd still get the same GDP.

it is *a* measure of wealth, but not the only one, and certainly not perfect by any means.

fwiw IANAE - i am not an economist

Not enough taxes.

😎

The graph uses nominal GDP which is a bit misleading. Most economists consider PPP GDP to be more realistic. Of course, the new country-to-state matches would not be that impressive anymore. 🙂

I got North Carolina..uhm, Sweden.. 😛

Similar in population too apparently. Around 9 - 9.5 million. But median income or GDP per capita would have given a more accurate picture...
