Interesting case of piracy.

the number of people who download stuff is tiny compared to those that do not
 
Whats interesting is that they gave out press screeners of four episodes. This is a show that doesnt even need hype...
 
The 4 episodes leaked *just* before the premiere, so there wasn't much time for people to find / download them. I mentioned the leak to my sister yesterday and she didn't know about it.

I warned her to avoid discussing it with people who downloaded them and might spoil plot details.
 
I sense OP is trying to justify piracy or belittle its impact. For the reasons I stated, the leak would have little impact on the premiere, but would have a huge impact on the next 3 weeks.

I've long wondered how much they could cut down on piracy by just simplifying international content licensing.

For example, Canadian Netflix is so watered down due to licensing issues that many resort to grey market services to bypass geoblocking. Sony has said they consider that to be piracy.

Even though we have HBO and share our service with friends and family, almost everyone I know has pirated those four episodes. I don't think it's as small a percentage as you think.

I wouldn't even know where to go to get them. Of course I don't torrent stuff. Plus I wouldn't want to have to wait a month for the next show.

no digital lock = to no wrong doing in canada.
 
Retail stores are prepared to write off certain percentage of their good to be stolen quarter after quarter. And yet the come out with record sales and profit numbers. So I guess the people who steal are "interesting" people!!! after all they are stealing from the pocket of the 1%ers, damn those rich people...
 
The people that are involved and polled for the rating numbers are most likely the least likely to actually pirate the show.

No, it's not illegal but the industry is pressuring content providers to beef up their geoblocking services by actively blocking VPNs and DNS services. But all that's really going to do is push more people to Pirate Bay.
 
My wife made the best point in this thing, why watch the first 4 episodes and then have to wait a month or so before you get to see what comes next?

Mostly just so people can be assholes and threaten to or flat out ruin the plotlines for people who don't want to or can't pirate those episodes.

I was talking in general about all TV piracy, but yeah its still a small percentage.

Some people don't know how to pirate, some people don't want to pirate, and for some people GOT watching has turned into an event so they want to watch live while on social media with others.

And then you have sophisticated pirates who won't touch the leaked content because the quality is garbage. GOT deserves HD for every viewing, 1080p optimally.
 
I pay a lot of money to be able to watch HBO. I have no respect at all for anyone who steals TV shows and movies. These types of people have no morals and honestly, don't deserve to be a part of society. Either pay for the things you want, or don't have them.

People who steal and cheat are scum. I don't care if you steal a $.25 pack of gum or a $20k watch. Stealing is stealing.
