Interesting car sights on the freeway

Saw a couple of interesting sights on the freeway today: an Audi R8, driven by a middle-aged lady, driving at 40 MPH in the passing lane and being passed by everyone on the right, including myself. I gave a thumbs up as I passed by.

Then, later on, there was a stalled Infiniti G35 being pushed by a CHP cruiser... when all of a sudden the G35's hood pops open! That was pretty crazy, the young Asian dude stuck his hand out the window and tried to signal something to the CHP, though I had no idea what. I wouldn't want to be him, that's for sure, with his girl sitting next to him.

So, what interesting sights have you seen on the freeway?

Last week I saw this guy riding a bicycle on the street. As he came to a freeway entrance ramp, he slowed down to look behind him to make sure he could go across. Instead he fell off his bike sideways and landed in the street.

Then something bizarre happened, as the van that was in front of me swerved to the right directly into the path of the guy laying on the street. Figured he was going to pull up to the guy and see if he was okay. Except this van accelerated at the guy. The guy leaped back up and off of the road just before this van almost ran him over. Was crazy. Had a coworker in my truck and we were both like WTF? Definitely one of the strangest things I've seen while driving.

I saw a Lamborghini Gallardo driving by my office a few weeks back. White. Sexy, sexy car. I live in a town which is almost purely middle class so its a rare sight to see such a high end car.

As for road rage, I had a Bell Telephone utility minivan try to run me off the road a couple months a go. I had honked at him because he was day dreaming at a green light, and holding up a big line of traffic. Less than a mile down the road, he cuts me off and slams on his breaks. Now I'm driving a GMC 16' cube truck. Those things don't exactly stop on a dime. He's damn lucky I didn't plow into the back of him because I wouldn't have eaten his van for breakfast.

Probably her husbands car.

Alternately maybe one of the tires was low on pressure, so the TPMS told the engine management to go into limp mode. Don't know if stuff like this happens with the R8, but supposedly it does with some cars.

I once saw a pack of Corvettes in the #1 lane. They kept rank close to prevent people from getting between them.

I saw a Mercedes, think it was some 2-door AMG model, doing more than twice the speed limit at around 3am.

I was once in a moving truck and we almost hit a light pole. The light pole was one of those really, really tall ones that are next to some freeways. Well, it had fallen over for reasons unknown to us. It lay across about 4 lanes.

Was traveling to a small town here close to where I live the other day in my service truck and came upon a bushhog in the middle of the road (hwy 69 north which is 4 lanes)...? WTF...? Some guy had it on a 16' lowboy and for some reason had not tied it down and lost it and just skidded to a stop in the road and had just happened...

A few years ago had a driver for the rental company I worked for was just in front of me with a Cat D6XL dozer on his drop neck trailer... We were on I-10 in Louisiana just before Lake Charles and all of the sudden traffic came to a stop and I mean fast... Well the D6XL broke loose and came off the trailer and of all things it went into the median and hit some soft dirt and slid about 75-100ft, did not flip or anything... Pretty wild to see a 50K+ lb dozer sliding on top of the ground... Needless to say the driver was cleaning seat material out of butt for awhile but we loaded the dozer back up and rechained it down and made it to our destination shaken and stirred...

I saw this earlier:

I saw the following twice recently, in Lexington, and then in New Orleans:

Old Honda Accord (1990s) that was going forward in a straight line, but pointed at a slight angle. The car looked like it was 'crabbing.' What mechanical problem causes that?

The "yaw" angle of the alignment is either knocked out (most likely) or just worn out suspension parts...

Saw a Ford Exploder the other day with a bunch of Caney heads that was almost full cross corner in the lane but they were laughing and having a good time none the less... 😕

I saw a BMW 7 series blow out a tire and spin through the median towards me.
Some exciting things recently in Colorado, including a semi with chained wheels sitting in a mountain pass just spinning its wheels.

A brand spanking new red 5.0 Mustang GT driving by what looked like a lady in her 70s going MAYBE 40MPH on the freeway.

After our first big snowstorm a couple weeks ago an 8 car pile up that looked like they all played pinball/demo derby with each other.

I see this a lot on older vans and trucks. I would say it's a GM thing but that doesn't seem fair because GM is one of the few companies that sells vans. I think it's the result of the vehicle being in an accident or hitting a curb or something.

Did you see that yaw control? :awe:

I always wonder how some people fly off the road. Today I was driving on a road that is very flat and very straight, but somehow a car slide off the road into about 3 feet of snow in the ditch. I can't even imagine what that guy was doing. You're going straight then OMG CAR SLIDES SIDEWAYS SOMEHOW

Black ice is one thing, but that night driving hope, I was going maybe 20-25 MPH on I-94, completely snow covered, and judging from the damage most of those people were going quite fast. Blows my mind when I see some big SUV/truck/CUV going 60-70mph on snow covered roads. I want to ask those people if they literally want to die/be horribly injured.

I usually see that in older pickup trucks. I call it "dog trotting." 😀

That sounds pretty typical. People feel "safe" after all in their huge SUV.

Driving super fast is kinda almost safe as long as you don't need to stop or corner. Corners really seem to mess a lot of people up. Instead of slowing down before entering the corner (like an off ramp) then cornering without touching the brake or the gas, they go full speed into the corner and hit the brakes while turning. The front tires lock up and the car slides in a straight line right off the road.

Today I was going what I would call an unsafe speed on some slick roads, but I was still good on the turns simply because I slow down before turning. Going 40mph in a straight line then slowing down to 4mph to turn is a lot better than what everyone else likes to do - drive 30 in a straight line and take the corner going 20 while hitting the brakes.

But I'm still curious what that guy was doing to get in the ditch. Like I said, it's a straight road on flat ground. It's also a very wide road; 3 driving lanes in the same direction, with 6 foot shoulders on either side of the road. Even if you hit some ice or a pedestrian or whatever, there's a lot of distance you need to travel before you fly into the ditch.

A semi's tire blew up next to me (it was the outside one on my side while I was passing it). That startled me. Thank god I'm an active driver and didn't freak out and swerve or whatever.

Subtle change in road crown? Crack in the road that jolted the wheels that were already on the edge of grip? Gust of wind? Tires long overdue for replacement? It doesn't take much at any speed when you have zero traction.
