If I could go back in time I'd go back to the 1950's. Such a peaceful time. Jobs were plentiful. People opened their doors to everybody.

you mean when americans were contantly supporting the image of a value oriented society

and when you could go down to havana and have a great time that always made americans feel so special

People are still talkative and friendly like this, but they don't recognize it because when black or Hispanic people get together with family and friends, white people become afraid. Not to mention that the cameraman and his friends are taking all the initiative here. Obviously you can't just waltz into some random 7-11 and expect everyone to smile and chat you up if you aren't outgoing and don't give the effort.

Yeah, although I think actually the key is the camera. Back then some random person having a camera was a much bigger deal than now where everyone has one so they'd ham it up and put on a show. Now if you did this you'd have a crowd with half the people recording the people doing it, who would probably be recording people taking selfies.

If anyone would like expert testimony on the 80's feel free to contact my agent.
I was all up in that piece.

I remember when the 7-11's first started taking over and running the local deli's out of business.
Whittling away our options for ID'less booze buying.

Couldn't agree more. With our sedative lives, mankind keeps getting fatter and fatter. The human race has 30-40 years left before it implodes upon itself.

Nobody acts "normal" in front of a giant '80s video camera...so of course it would be called "fake" if people acted like that in a movie where the camera isn't supposed to exist (in the fictional world).

I don't think it's all that different. Also you have to understand that the novelty of a "home video camera" was pretty new then, the thing was probably the size of a suitcase and mounted on his shoulder. Yeah some people had film cameras back in the 50's and 60's, but home cameras didn't take off until magnetic tape became successful, around the mid 80's. Now, everyone has a camera everywhere so nobody cares.

He bought a massive slurpee, paid with a dollar, and got money back. More than one staff member on duty at night, that's odd too. Everyone's happy they are filming and nobody is getting punched in the face or told to leave.

Odd.

I've watched it a couple times now and there is just something that seems off. I am not saying it is a fake, but I would not be surprised if a full video ends with Jimmy Kimmel popping up.

Agreed. I doubt the people where that much friendlier back then, it was just the novelty of the video camera that people were responding to.

Of course they were friendly. In the 80's, anyone at a 7-11 at 2:30 in the morning was on their way home from drinking, snorting, or getting high.

I haven't been in one since about '85, I always assumed it was still about the same.

What's with all the preoccupation with race in this thread, hell lots of threads for that matter?

the word highlighted above made me laugh :awe:

also, the 50s were already compromised with electricity/electronics/technology/medicine. why not yearn for 3500 BC when no such tainting had taken place?
