interesting, a Pre-AI lens would not mount on a D200

I have a D60, and one of the very first lenses I got is a pre-AI (then converted?) 50mm 1.4 Nikkor. It mounted and took beautiful pictures ever since.

recently my coworker borrowed that lens for his D200 for a long weekend trip. He came back telling me it would not mount. I tried it myself: it would "go in", but cannot "twist COMPLETELY" to mount. It's like there's something physically blocking it from mounting.
then I took an AI (105mm 2.5) lens and it worked on the D200. Actually it fits and feels quite superb on the bigger D200 than my D60.

anyway, my original point is, I thought all pre-AI/AI-converted lenses would mount on modern bodies.

As much as I hate to link his site,
Ol Ken has a nice little chart showing lens compatability.

Only the D5000, D3000, D60, D40, D40x will mount pre AI.

There is a aperture lever on those bodies that prevent Pre-AI lenses from mounting.

I'm glad you didn't try to force the lens on; the lever is plastic and can snap easily.
