interested in widescreen vs 4:3

I'm interested in a Fujitsu notebook because the only reason I need a big screen is for watching movies. With a wide screen (16:9) I can just use that real estate for movies and don?t need a big 14 or 15" screen. My question is what size 16:9 is displayed on a 14 or 15" screen?

You need to be more specific on ur question at least for me. 16:9 is an aspect ratio ie. 15.4" screen is a 16:9 or wide screen. where as a 15 or 15.1 is a 4:3 or square screen. If you watch a wide screen movie on a 4:3 screen then you will get black bars unless you max out the player which will lose you some of the movie on the sides...

I believe the smallest widescreen screen is 15.4".
Are you asking for resolution? A 15.4" displays 1280x800 @ WXGA resolution. I'm not sure about the other ones.
 
These are roughly the physical dimensions of the various screens:

15.4" widescreen: 13"x8.1"
14.1" 4:3 : 11.3"x8.5"
15.0" 4:3 : 12"x9"

So, if you are soley interested in movies, then the widescreen display will offer the biggest picture. However, in terms of overall physical area, the 15" 4:3 screen is the largest.
 
Hah 17"! I'm trying to find a SMALL laptop with a widescreen and then I get the right width of a screen for word processing and a wide screen for movies on the train. After four months traveling I realize that weight is by far the most important feature on a laptop.

Now accord... hows that pythagorian thing work again! JK
 
maybe you should just get some vr goggles if you want to watch movies on a small screen...maybe you should check out a 14 or 12 inch ibook?
 
FYI: I have the Fujitsu N5010...most beatuiful laptop screen anywhere period..Fujitsu is adding these screens to other notebooks in the laptop line..I highly recommend the screen..not widesreen but who cares if there is a black bar if the image quality of the screen is magnitudes better than anything else out there
