I'm looking at purchasing a laptop and the Sager NP4250 from DirectNote struck my interest. Here's the picture and the specs are:

  • 15" XGA Active Matrix LCD Display
  • 1.2Ghz Intel Pentium III - Mobile Processor
  • 512MB SDRAM
  • 40 GB Ultra DMA Hard Drive
  • 8x Max. DVD-ROM
  • Smart Li-ION Battery (4-5 hour run time)
  • 512KB on-die cache
  • ATI Mobility M6-P (Radeon) Video with 64MB DDR
  • Integrated 10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN & V.92 56K Fax/Modem
  • 4 USB Ports
  • 1 IEEE-1394 Port (4 PIN) and various other ports...
  • Weight: 7.7 lbs with battery
  • 1 year standard warranty with option of getting additional 3 year warranty

That configuration comes to a total of $1960. I can get the 3 year additional warranty for $179 for a total of $2139. My question is there any reviews or opinions on this notebook? I have a desktop for primary gaming and graphic intensive operations, my primary use for this would be for putting a dual boot between Linux and Windows XP and use it more for programming but also for playing DVD's and also some games. What do you think?

Thanks! :)

Well i used to have a sager notebook and i was disappointed in the quality of craftsmanship in comparison to a toshiba or other "mainstream" brand. I also know that with my particular notebook, i had a lot of problems with it locking up (i think it was due to poor heat dissipation and the lack of use of a mobile chip)

The main reason i bought it was because it was cheap, or cheap in comparison to it's "mainstream" competition. I think i got what i paid for, but that is my opinion. I have since used toshiba laptops, and much prefer their quality and craftsmanship.

Maybe they have improved their production qaulity, but i would stay away

PS: my experience with their tech support was poor at best. they were not very helpful in determining or pinpointing my lockup problem
