I was planning on traveling to Australia this summer, but it is always more fun to travel with friends and family.

So instead of Australia, I will be going to at least Japan, and then maybe elsewhere in Asia. The local paper ran a story about Cathay Pacific's "All Asia" pass which seems like a good deal if I plan to travel beyond Japan.

The pass is for 21 days, with flights to 23 cities + the option to add on. The price for me would be $1500. The price for round trip airfare to Tokyo will be ~$700 alone. Add in the fact that 5 of the cities (Including Tokyo) are located in Japan, this "All Asia" pass seems like a good deal to me.

Sounds like a good deal isn't very reliable though. Are flights in Asia and Japan sepecifically expensive or cheap?

add 400 bucks and extend the trip to 90 days.

stay close to a week or so at each destination and take in the sights .

Id love to do that as well, but I can't be out of work for 3 months. Plus, although it just another $400 for the flights for 90 days, it will be a lot more money to live in Asia for another 69 days.

I wish it was only $1k. That would make me consider adding on and just include Australia as well. :(

Key is to plan every detail out waay before hand. And make sure you can figure out contingencies. One cancelled flight can wreck your whole plan if it is too tight.
