Is this a good video card? Cost about $79.83

As I'm thinking of getting this for my (still undecided A64 3000+ or Prescott 3GHz) rig.

It's not considered to be a very good card. Certainly not for gaming. If you going to game with that new rig you'll want something better.

You're going to be pairing a bottom of the line gpu with a top of the line cpu..

Wow, if you're spending that much cash on a processor, you might want to at LEAST look at a radeon 9500 pro or something on ebay.

How did you end up choosing between two top notch CPUs and decide on getting a budget video card?
As long as you don't do any intense gaming that card will work but that's about it.

Ati Radeon 8500? I have one of those still in the box....64 I think, not the 128....how good is it for gaming? With a Athlon barton 2500 tuned up to 3200?

It'll run anything you throw at it, albeit not exactly at blazing speed. You'll probably have to turn some settings down. It should be a little slower than a Ti4200.

If you won't be gaming or programming DX9, it'll be fine, though a bit overpriced (I think you can find a Radeon 9100 for closer to $50).

If you'll be gaming with such a nice rig, don't look lower than a $155 9600XT, but really aim for nothing less than a $190 5900SE or $210 9700 Pro.

If you're on a sub-$100 budget, then try for a new Radeon 9100 or a used GF4 4200. Don't get less than 128MB of 250MHz DDR on any card you buy for gaming.

Just got one of these in the FS/T forum for $30 shipped...and its brand new!

Really nice card for 30 bucks! Has DVI, VGA, and Svideo out.
I'm going to try to add some cooling. The speeds are 250/333 according to coolbits.
Would be nice if it was 250/400. The exposed ram is in fact 6ns, so I'm not hoping for much OC.

Wow get a 2.8C and use the difference to grab a 9800 Pro, or keep whatever vid card u have now, grab ur p43e or a64 3200+ and wait til may 1st and snatch a new GPU

The FX 5200 is the very entry level of the nVidia FX series; not really good performers.

For what you're getting in terms of a computer system, I would go for at least an FX 5700 Ultra or if you can, an FX 5900SE or XT, maximum would be an FX 5900 to 5950 Ultra.

If you choose the ATI route, Radeon 9600XT to Radeon 9800 class would be nice, maximum would be the Radeon 9800 Pro/9800XT.

The 5700u is a good card (I own one) but don't make the same mistake I did, you can get a 5900XT, or SE for the same price. MSI has a 5900XT with an impressive bundle, for less than a 5700u. As for a budget card, I would go with at LEAST a Radeon 9600, SAPPHIRE 9600

So far it does 300/400 stable. I know its crazy, but I'm going to add a gpu heatsink and some ram sinks. I know the card is lame compared to even my 5600u, but cheap stuff is fun to OC too 🙂.
