Intenret slower than advertised?

I just moved into the big city and this is the firs time I've had the ability to buy really faster internet. (used to live in farmland) So I decided to jump on and get Time Warner's fastest internet that said I would get 15MB down and 758kb up. I was curious to see how fast my internet was so I went to speakeasy.net. It said I was running at .99MB down and and 50kb up. Should I call the internet company to complain or is there something I can do?

Thanks for any help. I hate to pay extra for nothing.
 
Sounds odd. You should get much faster than even your advertised speed on tests due to turbo or whatever they call it. Have you downloading a large file and see what speeds you are actually getting in use?
 
Yeah I just tried downloading a demo through Steam and it only got up to 70KB. I called Time Warner and they blamed it on my router. I tried explaining I was going directly into my PC from the modem but they didn't really care. Might try calling again..

.99 MB (note the capitalization) is roughly 10Mb, which is well within the range of what you would get if you had 15 Mb internet (I highly doubt they sold you 15 MB internet access).

Mb is the abbreviation for MegaBIT, roughly 8 of which make up 1 MB (MegaBYTE).

Speakeasy gives you results in Mbps.

Maybe the OP should take a screenshot of the test results and post it.
