War?

i think it's called politics ... and i kinda like the way intel left MS holding the bag :p
--MS had got to be really happy with their decision
--no one got fired?

ooh .. updated with lawyerese double talk
UPDATED: 6:25 p.m., PST - Microsoft issued the following statement after this blog was posted: "We included the 915 chipset as part of the Windows Vista Capable program based on successful testing of beta versions of Windows Vista on the chipset and the broad availability of the chipset in the market. Computers equipped with this chipset were and are capable of being upgraded to Windows Vista Home Basic. Microsoft authorized the use of the Premium Ready designation on PCs that could support premium features of Windows Vista."

i can already predict the outcome .. the lawyers make tens of millions and the damaged consumers get Vista $10-off coupons ... .. the settlement stipulates no one is actually guilty of "any wrongdoing", MS pays out $100,000,000 in "coupons" ... business as usual ... chump change for MS and more sales of Vista

You're right, "war" probably isn't the right term for what happened here.

How about "conspired to deceive"? You've got a GPU maker coercing MS into labelling a non DX10 GPU that can't even run Aero as "Vista Ready".

I'd be pissed if I bought one of those PCs.

i'd be pissed anyway ;)

:D

.. and DIRTY behind-the scenes deals and politics are what it IS "all about", really ... if it is like other big business.

What i would really like to read are the inside emails or those between intel and MS that discuss nvidia's future

The funny thing is that all this talk of "Vista Capable" hardware is based around year-old arguments now.

Now, i think nearly all PCs/notebooks being shipped are running @ least 1 GB & GPU's capable of Aero...

But eh, people need something to whine & sue about i guess.

Just because it cannot do Aero doesn't mean it doesn't run Vista fine.
Aero is just a pretty shell.

I run Vista Ultimate on my notebook, which is a Pentium M 1.86 GHz single core w/ 1 GB DDR333 & Intel GMA900 integrated craphics, which can't handle Aero.
Still runs fine though, though with no Aero, which isn't the end of the world at all.

Which features of the Ultimate did you need to put it on this laptop, n7...?

Seems like a bit of a waste, doesn't it...?
