Intel's Processor Strings...

Hi Guys....can someone tell me what the following translate to in standard name terms? -

Family 5, Model 4, Stepping 3
Family 6, Model 8, Stepping 10
Family 6, Model 5, Stepping 1
Family 6, Model 8, Stepping 3

I am guessing that family 5 is Pentium 2 and family 6 is Pentium 3 but I can't figure the rest for sure.

Family 6, Model 8, Stepping 10 = Pentium III Coppermine processor, stepping 10 (aka D0 stepping)
Family 6, Model 5, Stepping 1 = Pentium II Deschutes processor, stepping 1 (aka B0 stepping)
Family 6, Model 8, Stepping 3 = Pentium III Coppermine processor, stepping 3 (aka B0 stepping)

For Family 6,
Model 1 = Pentium Pro
Model 3 = Pentium II Katmai
Model 5 = Pentium II Deschutes/Celeron Covington
Model 6 = Celeron Mendocino

hmmm....You would have thought they might have mentioned the clock speed in that string too!

It's not really that complicated. In fact, the Intel CPUIDs make a lot more sense than AMD's.

For Intel,

Family 5 = Pentium, Pentium MMX
Family 6 = all P6 based CPUs: Pentium Pro, Pentium II, Pentium III and their Celeron derivatives
Family 15 = Pentium 4

AMD has two sets of CPUIDs, the standard and extended, that don't correspond to processor type and stepping in the same fashion as Intel's do. ie, the AXIA, AGOGA, AROIA codes do not correspond with a numerical CPUID like Intel's SLxxx codes.

I agree with you there, definately easier than AMD's!......but what happened to families 7 to 14
