Intel's First Z68 Motherboard Model Names Leaked, Expected in H2 2011

Not really excited about Z68 if all it adds is integrated graphics, all GAMERS are going to have a discreet card anyway right?

it's necessary for quickwhatever transcoding. which is useless until better programs support it anyway, but it's nice to know if handbrake ever supports it i could use it. can't do that with P67.

I was under the impression that Z68 still might not do this, as the main advantage to Z68 was being able to overclock and use the CPU graphics, not being able to overclock, use discrete graphics and quicksync at the same time. The issue is, quicksync only works if you are using the CPU graphics, you need display switching in order for it to work with a graphics card.

Edit: Also, no SSD caching at first. Will require a firmware upgrade, which is supposed to be able to come on a bios update.

hopefully we'll get some hands on or at least thorough details of SSD-Caching a while before it's launch...thats the one feature that might convince me to hold out till the 2nd half of this year for an upgrade if it's useful enough..there just seems to be ah heck all information about it around atm unless I've completely missed something >_<

though with it not launching with the MB's it's probably unlikely we'll get a preview anytime soon 🙁 guess there's always the slim chance of a preview board coming with an alpha bios and giving some kind of taste.... *grasps at straws*

Unless you've got a 6-core gulftown, SB is still an upgrade. A minor one, but an upgrade nonetheless. And IMO, AM3, LGA775, and lower-end LGA1156 are mainstream. Everything else is enthusiast.

I understand. For those of us who are buying a new PC to replace one 5 yrs old, the situation is a little different, in that "MAINSTREAM" can give us significantly better performance vs the older 1366 "Enthusiast" for no extra price premium. I just laugh at how some people treat the word "mainstream" as if they are Intel Atom Netbooks or something......

Yeah I'm in this boat, my E6600 (the original C2D model not the more recent one) is damn dated now...for a couple of hundred I can get a 2500K which is a massive performance increase and given my E6600 only just started having issues this past year...

I've never fully understood gamers wanting to go for $1000 CPU's when they really aren't meant for us. I completely understand it for people who run certain other software (or if your loaded and simply don't care about the cost) but gaming and general computer usage isn't that cpu intensive, 2500K's will probably last *ages* before they need to be upgraded so what if their price point technically puts them in the 'mainstream' area is that honestly reason to be unhappy? 😵
 
I would prefer to have onboard graphics than not. In case I want to sell my graphics card, then use the funds to buy a new one, using the onboard in the mean time

Big question is how much would you pay for that privilege? what if Z68's carry a $100 premium over the other chipsets? then if having a backup graphics card is the selling point you could grab a cheap arse second hand discreet card for quite a bit less that would serve the same purpose

That's one thing I'm really wondering is how much extra we're going to have to pay for this 'all in one' board :/ hopefully it's not too much more (or some of the features truely kick arse...either way i'll be happy 😛)
 
no one is telling you to do anything ,spend you money the way you want too, Z68 or 1155 is still an upgrade and not a "sidegrade",it may not be an upgrade for you just because you can justify your decision on a silly "Mainstream " tag,enjoy your rig bud

You still make no sense ..but you sure sound butthurt over that socket 1155 is mainstream.

I wonder what you'd call socket 2011?
